Abstract
Aim: The aim of this study was to evaluate the bond strength of composite to tooth material after external bleaching and to evaluate the change of bond strength during different periods of time compared to the control group (no bleaching), through a narrative review of literature. Materials and methods: PubMed, Scopus, Google Scholar and Web of Science were used to search for eligible articles. Methodological quality was assessed using the Jadad scale. Results: 10 out of 48 articles fulfilled the inclusion criteria. Nine out of ten articles showed a different bond strength directly after bleaching. The bond strength of composite to tooth material one day till fourteen days after bleaching are being described in different articles, but don't give a clear outcome concerning (differences in) bond strength. From fifteen till thirty days after bleaching the bond strength is returned and equal to the control group. Conclusion: It is shown that the bond strength directly after bleaching is lower compared to the control group. Furthermore, it is shown that bond strength recovers during time and has completely recovered fifteen days after bleaching.
