The purpose of this study was to investigate the relation between training load on one hand, and wellness and recovery on the other hand in elite beach volleyball players over the course of a competitive season. In a longitudinal study, 8 athletes were monitored on daily basis by means of a monitoring app. The daily training load was determined by the sRPE. The overall well-being of the athlete’s was determined by the wellness score, based on a questionnaire that rates sleep quality, fatigue, fitness, stress, muscle soreness and mood state. And the TQR was used as a measure for recovery. The athletes had an average daily training load of 490 ± 262, a daily average wellness score of 19 ± 3 and a daily TQR score of 5 ± 1. Multilevel analysis showed a significant relation between training load, recovery and mood state. The other wellness variables did not show a significant relation with training load. Therefore, coaches should focus on recovery and mood state to evaluate the adaptability of the athletes to the intensification of training programs.
