Abstract

Background Osteomyelitis is one of the most severe complications in trauma patients following a primary open fracture or surgical treatment of an open or closed fracture. Clinical findings are nonspecific, bearing the risk of a missed diagnosis. White blood cell scintigraphy, which, on indication, can be combined with SPECT/CT, is suggested to be a sensitive and specific method diagnosing osteomyelitis in the peripheral skeleton.
