Abstract
Aim of this study; to evaluate the influence of different root canal filling materials on the fracture resistance. of immature incisors with an apical MT A-plug. Methodology; to simulate immature incisors 68 bovine incisors were accessed and prepared in a standardized manner, creating a root canal diameter of 2.3 mm. After root canal preparation all teeth were irrigate with 2% sodium hypochlorite and 17% ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid. The teeth were randomly distributed into 4 groups: one control group and three experimental groups. Group I: control group, root canal preparation but no root canal filling; Group II: thermoplastic guttapercha in the root canal and coronall y filled with Clearfil PhotoPosterior from the cemento-enamel junction; Group III: the root canal and the coronal part from the cemento-enamel junction is filled with Clearfil PhotoPosterior; Group IV: the root canal is filled with Real Seal and the coronal part from the cementa-enamel junction is filled with Clearfil PhotoPosterior. In group II, ill and IV an MTA-plug of 5 mm. was placed before the root canals were filled with the different types of root canal filling materials. An universal testing device was used to apply an compressive load (lmm./1min.) at an angle of 130 degrees on the palatinal surface of the incisors until fracture occurred. This compressive load was measured in Newton. A statistical analysis was applied to the data using the one-way ANOVA and Tukey post-hoc test both at an significance level from a=0.05. Results; the mean fracture load was 1047.44 ± 252.95 for group I, 1882.22 ± 452.86 for group II, 1592.37 ± 457.84 for group ill and 1456.51 ± 263.33 for group IV. There was no significant difference between group II and ill and between ill and IV (p>0.05). There was a significant difference between group I and II en between I and IV (p<0.05), and between group II and IV (p<0.05). Conclusion; by immature incisors with an apical MT A-plug (i) the use of Clearfil PhotoPosterior and the use of Real Seal gives no increase in fracture resistance compared with the use of guttapercha and AH26, and (ii) applying a root canal filling gives an increase in fracture resistance compared with incisors with an root canal preparation but no root canal filling, in an experimental in vitro model.
