Abstract

Background: Focus of attention has been shown to play a role in the process of motor skill acquisition and a subject's motion technique alteration. Objective: To examine the effects of different types of attentional focus on lower limb biomechanics during the triple crossover hop test for distance. Methods: Thirty two female and male recreational athletes were allocated to four groups, i.e. control (CTRL), internal focus verbal (IF), external focus verbal (EF), external focus visual (Visual). Kinematics and kinetics were collected at the time of peak knee frontal plane moment. Results: Knee flexion angle, knee flexion moment, knee range, hip flexion angle decreased from baseline to post, while vertical ground reaction force increased. Conclusion: The different types of instructions did not produce the expected positive changes in the examined biomechanical ACL risk factors. Fatigue seemed to impede the motor learning process during the triple crossover hop test for distance.
