Abstract

The current knowledge about occlusion and articulation with an implant supported denture in the maxilla and a natural dentition in the mandible is minimal. This research examined whether there is a difference in patient satisfaction, of patients with an overdenture on 6 implants in the maxilla and a natural dentition in the mandible, with different occlusal concepts. The following aspects of the occlusion and articulation were compared with the patient satisfaction: a complete natural dentition in the mandible or not, whether there is a removable partial denture present, the number of occlusal contacts, which elements are active during lateral excursive movements and if there is a dentate of edentulous occlusal concept. Through the paired-samples t-test and the independent-samples t-test statistical significance was tested. The results showed no significance differences in the various aspects of the occlusion and articulation. However, the overall study population has become significantly more satisfied after placing the implants in the maxilla and fabricating an implant supported denture.
