Abstract

The first few months after research started, transplant patients in the study population suffered from neurological symptoms after their operation. The main symptoms are tremor and symptoms of polyneuropathy. This research intends to create a feasible research protocol to investigate these symptoms. The tremor-symptoms are measured using the TETRAS-scale and motion sensors. The polyneuropathy is examined by means of the mTCNS-score, in combination with force tests in different muscles and the SF-36. Ultimately, 21 patients were included in the polyneuropathy study and 11 people were tested for tremor symptoms. Besides testing the feasibility of the protocol for neurology tests in this specific group of transplant patients, we looked for correlations between on the one hand measurements of instruments for tremor and polyneuropathy and on the other hand patient characteristics. Descriptive statistics are applied on the data. The age of a patient seems to affect the mTCNS score. In addition, a link is shown between the mTCNS-score on tremor and strength in distal muscles. The study shows that the subjective experience of polyneuropathy symptoms is far lower than the objective measurement of polyneuropathy. However, the study population was too small to generalize conclusions. This will have to happen in the remainder of the study. The main conclusion of the study is that valid instruments for systematic assessing complaints of tremor and polyneuropathy are feasible in the daily practice of Transplantlines.
