Abstract

Continuous oral care in nursing homes is needed, but there is often none. It's time for a good policy, unfortunately, this takes no concrete form and its implementation needs fmance. There is need for a temporary, supportive and inexpensive solution. A direct personal involvement, the implementation of informal care would be a (temporary, supportive, inexpensive) strategy for improving dental care in nursing homes. This study will document the current state of health institutions regarding knowledge, attitudes and abilities regarding dental care for dependent nursing home residents of the informal care. This is examined through a survey conducted among the informal care involved in a nursing home. Caregivers from the age of 20 years who visits the nursing home resident at least weekly, were included. A total of 85 persons enrolled with a nonresponse of 44. 41 Volunteers participated in the survey. The multiple choice questionnaire was compiled. It can be concluded; that highly educated informal carers and parents have a more positive attitude towards providing dental care to a nursing home residents entered, carers with a fulltime job and a shorter travel have more knowledge regarding the dental care of dependent nursing home residents. It also may be concluded that the attitude and the caregiver, regarding the provision of dental care for dependent nursing home residents, positively correlate with each other. This study could be argued that the informal care sees possibilities in the provision of dental care to their nursing home residents, but a negative attitude towards the provision of such dental care. This is based on research conducted with an not validated instrument. There is reason to suppose that a validated instrument can identify attitude, ability and knowledge of informal caregivers.
