Abstract

Introduction Patients, who have had kidney transplantation, have a bigger risk to develop NODAT (New-Onset of Diabetes After Transplantation) or cardiovascular diseases. Patients will be placed in a control group, a revalidation group or a combination of revalidation and a diet group. The revalidation group will be coached by a physiotherapist. In the Active Care after Transplantation (ACT) study is hypothesized that a revalidation intervention with a diet intervention gives less cases of NODAT in comparison to the control group. Specified research will be done to measure the effect of the revalidation within these groups on the tolerance of glucoses and the increase of adiposity. The research will specifically look at the effect of revalidation intervention on the glucoses tolerance and the increase of adiposity between patient groups. Methods The revalidation group gets 3 months of active coaching at a revalidation center by a physiotherapist. During 15 months an oral glucoses test was taken at three moments to check if the patient still didn’t have NODAT. Also a BIA test was taken, to check the fat percentage. The data will be calculated with SPSS Statistics 22.0. Results There is no significant difference between control and intervention group, for the sober glucoses and the glucose after OGTT. Only the fat percentage has increased significantly. All the other clinical characteristics show no significant differences. Conclusion This preliminary study shows no significance effect of the revalidation program on the glucose tolerance between the revalidation and the control group. The reason is the small group of patients, what causes a power problem.
